The ruling party in Imo state, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is now in a race against time to put its house in order before 2015 as the crisis rocking it took a new dimension over the weekend.
In what will be a big blow for the credibility of the Imo governor Rochas Okorocha within his party, the state chairman and woman leader of the party, Prince Marshal Okeafor Anyanwu and Lady Chidimma Akasike have both resigned.
They addressed a press conference on Saturday where Anyanwu said the party in the state was not being funded, a situation which led to him shouldering the responsibility of running the party’s affairs with his own finances.
He claimed that he had spent N60 million running the party secretariat, including the payment of workers’ allowances.
Anyanwu said that due to those issues he has decided to move to another strong party in the state with his “over 200,000 supporters.”

“Tell me, how could the governor who spoke vehemently against imposition of candidates last month which was widely reported in the national media now turn around to institutionalize imposition in Imo State APC?
Also speaking, the party’s former women leader, Lady Akasike, said she “resigned out of frustration”, adding that they would both disclose their next line of action soon.
